On December 20, Aquaman 2 marks both the return of the DCEU’s most successful franchise (grossing $1.152 billion worldwide in 2018) and the end of the shared universe launched a decade ago with Man of Steel.
Still directed by James Wan, the feature film suffered several delays related to changes in strategy at Warner and, subsequently, DC Films. But there appears to have been a tumultuous investigation behind the scenes variety.
There is talk that Jason Momoa regularly drinks on set and wants to fire Amber Heard. To the point that he disguised himself as Johnny Depp before the latter’s ex-partner, who was accused of domestic violence and with whom he was then at the center of a high-profile trial.
A spokesperson for DC denied this information in a suspicious way: Johnny Depp fans actually paid for the notes of Amber Heard’s therapy sessions that were used in the lawsuit.
Amber Heard in Aquaman
Personal interviews that were supposed to remain private, which the actor’s lawyers prevented from being released. But that echoes what a great documentary tells us factory of lies, which returns to the trial. And especially the poor media treatment of Mera’s translator.
Who will be back in Aquaman 2, in a role that promises to be less important than in the first film, if the trailer released in September and reports about the featurette are anything to go by. This will be the end of his adventures in DC, as well as for Jason Momoa.
Jason Momoa, Lobo Baby?
The universe is currently undergoing a complete overhaul under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, and their strategy still had areas of uncertainty. Variety says today that the director and producer will opt for a total reboot, rather than one with Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller or Jason Momoa. Even if the case of the latter is different.
For several months, Aquaman’s interpreter has suggested that he could be staying at DC, but in a different role. And more precisely to Lobo. An option that will soon come to fruition, as the actor could appear as the ultra-violent alien mercenary in Superman: Legacy, which James Gunn is producing, or in his own solo film.
On December 20, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom marks the end of an era. And the beginning of another, which we hope is less difficult.
