Corinthians held an open training session this Thursday (12), the training led by Mano Menezes focused on quick passes
Corinthians practiced quick passes and ball recoveries in the attacking sector this Wednesday morning, at coach Joaquim Grava, marking the third day of training during the FIFA Data international break.
The training session began with an exciting passing activity, with Mano Menezes highlighting the importance of precise passing.
– Pass over the foot, not into space. Be careful, otherwise just run, and anyone who simply loves running is a physical trainer – asked the coach at a certain point.
Subsequently, the technical team divided the team into three groups, alternating them to practice attack versus defense situations and defensive recovery after losing ball possession.
The technical team interrupted training several times to emphasize the games on the flanks. Pedro, in particular, received precise instructions, then Mano Menezes was accused of an action designed to wrong-foot the opposing full-back and open up space on the flanks.
— The passage is at the extreme. It’s right there on the wings — approved Mano Menezes during the action, after two plays on the left.
At a certain point the lineup of the starting team was outlined, with Cássio, Rafael Ramos, Gil, Lucas Veríssimo and Fábio Santos in defense; Maycon, Fausto Vera and Matheus Araújo in midfield; and Mosquito, Yuri Alberto and Romero in attack.

Fagner joined the other team during training, while Gabriel Moscardo and Renato Augusto did not take part in the session. Furthermore, Corinthians’ FIFA data includes the absences of Matheus Donelli and Guilherme Biro, called up for the Pan American Games by the Brazilian team, and Bruno Méndez and Matías Rojas, who represent Uruguay and Paraguay respectively in the Qualifiers group rounds.
As for Renato Augusto, he spent most of his time inside the sports center and only joined the team for a specific and isolated activity. This is the player’s third consecutive absence from team activities since he left the match against Flamengo with calf discomfort, a muscle injury similar to the one that kept him out of six previous Corinthians matches.
This was the first training session open to the press since Mano Menezes arrived at the club two weeks ago. In the last two days, Corinthians has concentrated its preparation on ball possession activities, marking compressions and individual comparisons in one-on-one and two-on-two modes.
Mano Menezes has promised that Corinthians will be in a “much better” condition at the end of the Fifa Data break, as the training sequence is extremely valuable at this early stage of their work. He intends to focus training on team positioning and second ball recovery games. Last Wednesday the emphasis was on individual duels and counter-attack scenarios.
Corinthians’ next match is scheduled for next Thursday, against Fluminense, at the Maracanã. Until then, the team will carry out seven more on-field training sessions, including a two-half session on Saturday before the day off on Sunday.
