Israel has ordered the evacuation of civilians from Gaza within 24 hours
Israel ordered this Friday (13/10) the withdrawal of 1 million civilians from northern Gaza within 24 hours, in the context of preparations for a ground offensive aimed at repressing the Islamic fundamentalist group Hamas, in retaliation for attacks against the Israeli population at the weekend.
Israel Defense Forces spokesman Jonathan Conricus said the military had sent residents of Gaza City a message asking them to withdraw “from their homes to the south for their own safety and protection.”
“The terrorist organization Hamas has waged a war against the State of Israel and Gaza City is an area where military operations are taking place,” Conricus said Friday morning.
“This evacuation is for your safety. You will only be able to return to Gaza City when another permit is announced,” he added, explaining that residents of the region had been warned not to approach the security fence with Israel, but to continue towards south of the Gaza Strip.
The spokesperson also stated that the leadership of Israeli forces constitutes “a humanitarian step aimed at minimizing civilian casualties during this war” (read full article).
