A businessman died during a parachute landing in the city this week. The municipal management does not believe in new sanctions for the site
The mayor of Boituva, Edson Marcosso (PSD), understands that, so far, there is no reason for the National Parachuting Center (CNP)located in the city, will be closed again due to the accident businessman Humberto Siqueira Nogueira killed49 years old, last Wednesday, 11.
In conversation with the Estadao This Friday, 13, says that what happened to Humberto Nogueira is a different case from the accident that caused the death of skydiving student Andrius Jamaico PantaleĆ£o, 38 years old, in July last year. Pantaleone fell on the roof of a house while jumping. “It was the first case of its kind. A person fell in free fall, the equipment was not opened and fell onto the roof of a house in the city.”
The student’s death led the Court to accept the legal representation of the Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office and to determine, in July last year, the temporary suspension of the National Parachuting Center, as flights and jumps, as they take place on highways, and urban areas, do not guarantee the safety of the population and athletes.
āIt seems to me that this case was not a failure of equipment or care after the accident because it was a very violent shock,ā Edson Marcusso said in reference to this week’s episode. “And, in fact, we could have all the resources in terms of aid, but it wouldn’t be possible (make Humber survive) because it was a very serious accident”, declared the mayor. “In my opinion, (suspend the activities of the CNP) would be equivalent to closing a road after an accident with a victim.”
The Civil Police of Boituva continues to investigate the causes of Nogueira’s death. The businessman was considered an expert parachutist, with more than a thousand jumps, according to people close to him interviewed by the Estadao. On social media the victim presented himself as a practitioner of various extreme sports such as parachuting, mountaineering, snowboarding and kitesurfing.
According to the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSP-SP), the businessman, originally from GoiĆ”s, collided with the ground during landing. He was treated and taken to SĆ£o Luiz hospital, in Boituva, but died due to cardiopulmonary arrest. When questioned this Friday the 13th about the developments of the investigation, the department only stated that the Boituva Civil Police “has started a police investigation” and that “the proceedings continue with the aim of clarifying the facts”.
āOn the last jump of the day, which was actually the third jump of the day, he was doing a standard landing like so many other times, and something happened,ā reported paratrooper Paulo Pireswho was a friend of Humberto, Estadao. āHe ended up colliding with the ground in a way that caused a wound to his chest and, unfortunately, he stopped breathing.ā

The accident was not caused by an equipment failure, the confederation says
In conversation with the Estadao, the president of the Brazilian Parachuting Confederation (CBPq), Uellinton Mendes de Jesus, also reported that the fall was not caused by problems with the victims’ equipment, based on an analysis by CBPq experts. āIt turned out that the parachute was inflated and was sailing for the landing,ā Mendes said. “OR check fThe operation of a parachute is carried out immediately after opening by the parachutist. If the main one fails, the backup must be activated immediately.”
Mendes also understands that it is necessary to wait for the investigation, but that preliminary information should not indicate a punishment for the CNP. According to the president of the CBPq, the National Parachuting Center promotes around 15 thousand jumps per month and almost 180 thousand per year, while the annual average of injuries, involving athletes affiliated to the confederation, is very low in relation to the frequency of the activities that take place in the center. āIf you take into account the confederation and not the independent associations, we have had two fatal accidents this year.ā
Previously, in a statement, CPBq lamented the accident that took the life of Humberto Nogueira, expressed its condolences to his friends and family and said that the confederation has also launched a rigorous investigation into what happened. According to Uellington, responses to the entity’s investigations are expected to be submitted by the body next week.
