Immediately discover this family film, Calloway the Tramp, which is worth much more than the anonymity into which it has fallen. Available on Disney+, it immerses you in the heart of a family in need, whose solidarity is inspiring.
Calloway’s father’s dream is to build a sanctuary to protect wild geese. But developers and financiers come and attack the Calloways with just one mistake to evict them and create a goose hunting preserve.

Contrary to what its title suggests, this is not just a film focused on the trapping profession. Moreover, the paradox of the film is to present a trapper who hunts animals for their fur and at the same time wants to protect the local wild geese and protect them from hunters.
Calloway the Trapper is directed by Norman Tokar, who started at Disney with Fearless Sam (1963) and worked at the studio on The Cat from Outer Space (1978), making 14 films in 15 years. Suffice it to say, we’re confident we’re in for a movie that perfectly lives up to the family aspect of Disney’s productions of the time.
Brandon de Wilde, Vera Miles
Note, however, that some of the themes are more difficult than in other studio productions, such as alcoholism and harsh country life, especially for the mother, Lydia Calloway (a very good performance by Vera Miles).
What will they like?

- The Calloway family and the strength they show despite the blows of fate, the mistakes of the father and the clumsiness of the son. Mother is exemplary.
- The colorful villagers, including Alfie (Walter Brennan) and Ed (Ed Winn, a big Disney regular), two old men who are grumpy on one and stone-deaf on the other.
- The scene where Lady Calloway receives an unexpected Christmas present is extremely moving, with tears of joy.
What might be bothering them:

Brian Keith
- As its name suggests, the Calloway trap emphasizes the profession of a hunter who uses animal skins. That is why we witness stalking scenes and animal skins being sold. And mom is excited about the silver fox fur for Christmas. It is difficult for small nature lovers.
- Instead of intervening, the villagers observe the fights of the youths. Knowing how to fight is important to respect.
- When in trouble, Calloway drinks too much and makes bad decisions.
