Brazil’s ambassador to the West Bank, Alessandro Candeas, said on Sunday that he hopes Brazilians awaiting repatriation in the Gaza Strip will be able to cross the border into Egypt at a crossing near the city of Rafah on Monday.
In an interview with GloboNews, Candeas said the embassy had received information from Brazilians in Gaza that “rumors are circulating” about the border opening on Monday, and also confirmed this information through another channel.
The government said in a statement this Sunday that a group of 28 people – 22 Brazilians and six Palestinians living in Brazil – remain refugees in the southern Gaza towns of Rafah and Khan Yunis, awaiting authorization to cross the border.
The ambassador specified that the departure of the Brazilians depends on the opening of the passage to Egypt and also on the authorization of the immigration authorities, who will have to stamp the passports of the Brazilians.
“On a political level, everything has already been done. It is only necessary that, once the border is opened, the official who is there, who will receive the Brazilians, has the list and authorizes entry. We hope that this will happen tomorrow. , that is our expectation,” Candeas said.
The government informed that as soon as the group can reach Egypt, they will be taken to Brazil on a Brazilian Air Force plane. Five other repatriation flights have already been carried out to bring Brazilians and family members back from Israel.
