Understand the ending of Destinos à Driva, the Netflix thriller film

The story takes place during a dystopia in which Spain once again finds itself under a totalitarian regime. In this reality, children and pregnant women are killed to control the country’s increasingly scarce resources. Mia (Anna Castilho), the protagonist, is pregnant, so she and her husband Nico (Tamar Novas) decide to leave the country.

With no other way out, they decide to escape illegally in a container, but when the day of escape finally arrives, the two are separated. Before the container Mia is in is loaded onto a ship, the soldiers kill everyone present, except for her, who manages to hide. But her bad luck continues when a strong storm arrives, causing the container to be thrown into the sea.

With holes drilled into the metal box, water slowly fills the space, Mia must now fight tooth and nail for her survival and that of the baby who ends up being born in another horrible storm. She goes so far as to eat the placenta so as not to starve.

She needs to be creative to survive and uses the little material she finds in the container to make the most of what she has on hand. From making improvised stitches with wire to close a deep wound in her leg, to building a fishing net out of headphone wires she finds in one of the boxes, Mia fights to save her and her baby’s lives.

At a certain point Nico calls her to say goodbye, because the container he was in has been discovered and he is condemned to die without ever seeing his newborn daughter.

With much difficulty, Mia manages to open a passage in the ceiling from which she and the child can exit and seek help. The container continues to fill with water to the point that it is no longer possible to stay there.

Mia almost gets trapped underwater but manages to escape just in time to save herself by leaving the container to sink into the sea, but her daughter Noa, who was on a small raft she improvised, can’t look anywhere. .

The film implies that a whale appears to help Mia find the baby, and once Mia joins Noa again, she clings to the raft and hopes when she sees seagulls flying overhead. However, their forces are rapidly depleting due to all the effort required thus far.

At the end of Destinos à Driva, Noa is found by an Irish boat, and when they take the baby out of the box, they realize that there is some kind of rope made from wires and wires from headphones, and when they pull it, it saves Mia from the bottom of the sea.

It was necessary to insist on reviving Mia, who was on the verge of death, but they manage to revive her and both mother and daughter are now safe and sound.
