“Sorry guys, I can’t do this anymore!” : The day Jean-Claude Van Damme broke down during an interview

Jean-Claude Van Damme, known to journalists as a very good “client”, to whom Arte is currently dedicating an excellent documentary, nevertheless collapsed in front of the press a few years ago. It was in 2016, in an interview given to the Australian TV channel Seven Network.

From the beginning of the interview, Jean-Claude Van Damme is irritated by the attitude of the technicians who are not really careful behind the camera. “I’m talking to you and people behind the camera are talking and telling me I’m sweaty, all that stuff…”– says the Belgian actor in full duplex.

But what really sets Jean-Claude Van Damme off is when a reporter asks him to talk about his relationship with Kylie Minogue, with whom he shared a Street Fighter poster, but also about being around for a while. One celebrity question is too many for JCVD, who then launches into an amazing monologue live!

“yes i love kylie i love everyone”Whispers a haggard Jean-Claude Van Damme. “Can I come down to Australia and really talk to you? Sorry guys, I can’t do that anymore. You talk to the whole person, you know. Let me talk, let me talk, please!” The press has been asking me the same questions for twenty-five years.”

“Kyle, training etc… I’m coming to Australia to talk about something else with the community”The actor then got carried away, almost as angry as when he came so close to playing one of cinema’s most iconic monsters. “I’m 55. I’m not 25, 30 or 35 anymore. I’m 55. I have a different perspective on life.”

“We’ll talk about him again when I get to Australia, but the interviews we see on TV are so boring.”Continues the increasingly rebellious JCVD. “These questions are boring. That’s why I find it hard to answer them and I start to sweat. I don’t feel comfortable because it’s boring. And I expected it. Next question? Do you have something interesting to ask me?”

Jean-Claude Van Damme, clearly angry, ends the interview himself. “Okay, I have to go to the bathroom, bye” he says before getting genuinely angry off camera while the microphones are still on. “What the hell is going on in Australia? Damn it! I can’t do it anymore… I’m too natural. You can throw it all away. What the hell is this?” Atmosphere…
