Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film introduces Adonis Johnson, played by Michael B. Jordan. The latter never knew his father, the famous world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. However, he has boxing in his blood and decides to train the best in his category.

In Philadelphia, he tracks down Rocky Balboa, whom his father once met, and asks him to become his trainer. Reluctant at first, the former champion finds unshakable strength in Adonis and ends up accepting.
