Fluminense criticizes the refereeing against Corinthians: “Disastrous, shameful and biased”

Fluminense destroyed the refereeing of the match against Corinthians, this Thursday, led by Paulo César Zanovelli. Through social media, Tricolor rated the judges’ performance as “disastrous, shameful and biased”.

For Fluminense, Marlon’s penalty on Ruan Oliveira, which led to Corinthians’ third goal, was non-existent. Referee Paulo César Zanovelli realized that there had been an attack on the back of the Corinthians midfielder in the 30th minute of the first half.

The Laranjeiras club still questions the referee’s failure to award a penalty to Fábio Santos on Samuel Xavier, in the final stretch of the first phase. The full-back advances on the tricolor athlete, inside the area, shortly after the end of the action. Flu still understands that there was a touch from Fagner’s hand, 15′ into the second half, in an action that also involved Keno and Gil.

“The referee used dubious criteria and directly influenced the outcome of the match, reporting a non-existent penalty in favor of Corinthians and not awarding two other penalties, currently existing, to Fluminense. The errors committed tonight – which sparked indignation among the citizens, the athletes and the fans – only demonstrate the long road ahead to reach the level of refereeing excellence necessary to guarantee a good show in Brazilian football”, reads the communication from Fluminense.

The club also asks the CBF to apply “the appropriate sanctions to the refereeing panel of this match so that cases like this do not happen again”.

While Paulo César Zanovelli was the match referee, Guilherme Dias Camilo and Felipe Alan Costa de Oliveira acted as assistants. Rafael Traci was the VAR coach.

Against Fluminense Corinthians took the lead with Yuri Alberto and Lima then equalized for the home team. Yuri and Fábio Santos gave Timão a two-goal lead, but Flu scored again with Lima and tied the match with Jhon Arias.

With the draw, Corinthians jumps to 13th place, with 32 points, two more than the relegation zone of the Brazilian championship. The team’s next match will be against América-MG, Sunday, at the Neo Química Arena. The ball rolls at 6.30pm (Brasilia time), in Itaquera.

Fluminense FC repudiates the disastrous, shameful and partial refereeing conducted by Paulo César Zanovelli in Thursday’s match at the Maracanã. The referee used dubious criteria and directly influenced the outcome of the match, awarding a non-existent penalty in favor of Corinthians and not awarding two other penalties, which now exist, to Fluminense. The mistakes made tonight – which caused athletes and fans to revolt – only demonstrate the long road ahead to reach the level of refereeing excellence necessary to guarantee a good performance in Brazilian football. Fluminense hopes that the CBF Referee Commission applies appropriate sanctions to the referee panel for this match so that cases like this do not happen again.
