Vini Jr speaks out after new case of racism in Spain: ‘Isolated episode number 19’

Another deplorable episode of racism marked Spanish football last Saturday (21st). In the duel between Sevilla and Real Madrid, which ended 1-1, Vini Jr was, once again, the target of racist insults from the stands of the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. The Brazilian praised the speed with which Sevilla identified and punished the fan who made the insults, but underlined that cases of this type are repeated.

– Congratulations to Sevilla for their quick finish and free kick in another sad episode for Spanish football. Unfortunately, I accessed video of another racist act during Saturday’s game, this time committed by a child. I am very sorry that there is no one to educate you. I invest, and I invest a lot, in education in Brazil to train citizens with attitudes different from these – declared Vini Jr.

– The face of today’s racist is printed on websites as on many other occasions. I hope that the Spanish authorities will do their part and change the legislation once and for all. These people must also be criminally punished. It would be a great first step in preparing for the 2030 World Cup. I am available to help. I’m sorry to sound repetitive, but it’s isolated episode number 19. And beyond… – said the Brazilian.

Sevilla released an official statement on Saturday announcing the identification and expulsion of the fan who committed racist acts against Vini Jr. The club acted quickly to report the racist to the police.
