Experts highlight management of young athletes at Botafogo: ‘Example of SAF’

Sports management specialist, Danilo Barbosa praised Botafogo SAF for the process adopted in training young athletes.

Acquired by John Textor as SAF, Botafogo has transformed itself in recent seasons and, in terms of financial organisation, is the favorite to win this year’s Brazilian title. One of the first corporate clubs in Brazil, Alvinegro can become an example for other teams, as Danilo Escobar, a specialist in sports management, explains.

In an interview on the “After the Game” podcast, the entrepreneur underlined Botafogo’s vision for youth categories, in addition to investments in professional football, which could be decisive for the training of young athletes of the future.

– What Botafogo is creating is a European culture. Today, at the base, there is the obligation to learn a second language, to study a new language, focusing on the real education of citizens, going beyond seeing the young person as a club athlete, but rather as a member of society.

Danilo Escobar has experience in buying and selling SAF, having worked on the process at other clubs in Brazil. In addition to Botafogo, the entrepreneur praised Bahia and explained that the project is far from being based solely on more money.

– Brazilians are not ready for the SAF, because the project is not about money and organization. When they understand that SAF is management, then clubs will be able to have lasting projects that work. Today in Brazil the two clubs that are examples of this process are Botafogo and Bahia, which already implement a professional and European mentality in football.

If confirmed, the victory of the Brazilian championship, just two years after the creation of the SAF, will be another positive factor in relation to the business process of clubs in Brazil. Focused on the dispute, Botafogo returns to the pitch next Sunday (29th), at 8pm (Brasilia time), against Cuiabá.
