This Tuesday (24th), the pre-season tests of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship began in Valencia.

Drivers and teams will take advantage of the next few days to prepare the GEN3 for the next edition of the electric car world championship, which will start in January 2024, in Mexico City.

On the first day of testing, only one of the two scheduled sessions was carried out. The second training session did not take place due to a fire that broke out in the paddock, which was immediately put out following emergency procedures. One person was taken to hospital as a precaution, but was released shortly afterwards without injuries.

An investigation into the causes of the accident is already underway and Formula E has chosen not to carry out the training sessions scheduled for this Wednesday (25th), resuming activities on Thursday, unless confirmed in the next few hours.

In the only training session of the day, New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) set the fastest time in the final minutes, with 1min24s474, repeating the good performance achieved by the British team in training last season.

Evans was more than half a second faster than the best time set at the same Circuit Ricardo Tormo at the end of last year. On that occasion, German Maximilian Günther led four of the five sessions held, and his best time was 1min25s127.

In addition to Mitch Evans, six other drivers managed to close the session with times lower than those recorded by Günther last year, demonstrating the evolution of teams and drivers with the GEN3 since their first contact with the single-seater, just over ten months ago. . .

Champion of the sixth season of Formula E, Portuguese Antonio Félix da Costa (TAG Heuer Porsche) achieved the second best time, 0.143 seconds behind Mitch Evans. Third was the Swiss Sebastien Buemi, champion in his second year of the electric car world championship, driving one of the Envision Racing cars, the current team champion.

Now a Mahindra Racing driver, Swiss Edoardo Mortara finished fourth, followed by Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche) and Maximilian Günther (Maserati MSG Racing).

One of the rookie drivers in this week of Formula E pre-season testing in Valencia, Taylor Barnard (NEOM McLaren) led the session for a few minutes, driving the GEN3 that will be used by Sam Bird during the world championship. In the end he closed the session with the seventh fastest time of the day, 1min24s929s.

With just under an hour left in the session, driver Robert Schwartzman (DS Penske) escaped in sector 3 of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit and crashed, causing the medical car to enter and interrupting the session for a few minutes.

The two Brazilian drivers confirmed on the grid for the 10th season of Formula E took part in the first day of testing. Sérgio Sette Câmara (ERT Formula E Team) closed the session with the ninth best time: 1min25s286.

Coming from a new team after a spell with Mahindra Racing in the last world championship, Lucas di Grassi managed to set the 12th fastest time of the session for the ABT Cupra, with 1min25s347.

The tenth season of Formula E will consist of a total of 16 stages, with Brazil confirmed once again on the calendar of the electric car world championship.

The GEN3 will accelerate at the Anhembi Sambódromo, in Sao Paulo (SP), on March 16, 2024, and ticket sales for the race will open next week.
