Maestro: The trailer shows Bradley Cooper torn between music, marriage and other men

Netflix has released the poster and trailer for “Maestro”, the second film directed by Bradley Cooper, who debuted in the role with the success “A Star Is Born” (2018). As in the previous one, Cooper also appears in front of the camera in a role related to the music industry. “Maestro” is the biopic of composer Leonard Bernstein.

A complex love story

Described as an emotional epic about family and love, “Maestro” tells the complex love story between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, played by Carey Mulligan (“Beautiful Revenge”), spanning more than 30 years. Bernstein, known for scoring the Broadway musical “Love, Sublime Love” and the classic film “Syndicate of Thieves” starring Marlon Brando, married Felicia in 1951 and had three children with her. But the relationship was complicated by the affairs she had had over the years, especially with men, never hidden from Felicia. The couple separated for a period of a year, but remained together until Felicia’s death in 1978.

The preview features the couple in two moments: younger, in black and white, and older, in bright color.

Cast and production

Cooper wrote the screenplay for “Maestro” with Oscar “Spotlight” winner Josh Singer and is joined in the cast by Matt Bomer (“Doom Patrol”), Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Sarah Silverman (“Marry Me”) , Josh Hamilton (“The Walking Dead”), Gideon Glick (“Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Sam Nivola (“White Noise”), Alexa Swinton (“Billions”), Michael Urie (“Getting Real”) and Miriam Shor (“Minor”). The executive producers also include names such as directors Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”) and Steven Spielberg (from the remake of “Love, Sublime Love”).

“Maestro” had its world premiere on September 2 at the Venice Film Festival, where it attracted attention for the fake nose worn by Cooper, considered by some to be caricatured, and for the positive reviews it received.

The release will take place in early December in cinemas, on a limited circuit, before arriving on Netflix on December 20th.
