Was Darth Vader a victim of the Empire? A scene from Star Wars that breaks the myth a little!

A heavy and disturbing step in a dark and foggy corridor, slow and mechanical breathing, a long cape as black as night and impressive armor, with an evil helmet on top.

From the introduction to the first Star Wars directed by George Lucas in 1977, Dark Sith Lord Darth Vader (formerly known as Anakin Skywalker) has been one of the most dangerous villains in film history (so much so that his crimes earned him a mock trial in Chile).

An employee and disciple of the dreaded Emperor Palpatine, after he betrayed the Jedi Order to support him, Vader obeys his master with a finger and an eye. But is he really the most powerful man in the Empire since Palpatine, as one might think when (re)discovering the original Star Wars trilogy?

As we can guess from the scene of Return of the Jedi (Episode VI of the saga) recently leaked by the site CBR, everything may not be so simple. Indeed, in the sequence in question, we get to witness a face-to-face between Darth Vader and a certain Moff Jergerod, an Imperial officer we already saw him talking to in the opening scene of the film.

While Vader tries to have a private audience with Palpatine, Jergerod completely blocks his way. “You can’t come in.”He dares to tell the interlocutor before paying for the arrogance suppressed from afar. “by order of the emperor”manages to add with a hiccup.

After speaking his master’s name, Vader immediately releases Jerjerod from his restraints and leaves the throne. “I will wait as he wishes.”He said before turning on his heel. “good”Then his opponent responds with a challenging tone.

This little quibble, seemingly innocuous, may lead us to believe that Vader may not be as respected in the highest ranks of the Empire as he might think. Despite his great strength and mastery of the Force (which he doesn’t hesitate to use to bring back good memories from over-bold opponents), few officers allow themselves to stand up to him.

This is true in this deleted scene, respectively, but also out of sequence Episode IV, where another high-ranking Imperial officer was blatantly disrespecting Vader before Jerjerod suffered the same fate. Grand Moff Tarkin, who, you’ll remember, is officially higher in rank than Vader, ordered him to deliver the prey, and the Sith Lord promptly complied.

Another example that highlights the fact that Vader is far from omnipotent in the Empire.
