Police reveal that more than a thousand cell phones have been stolen from The Town

The Town, the music festival that rocked Sao Paulo in early September, was also the scene of a wave of robberies and cellphone thefts. According to data from the Civil Police, during the five days of the event, which attracted around 500,000 people to the capital São Paulo, at least 1,084 accidents were recorded.

According to data from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), 60% of stolen devices were iPhones.

The records were concentrated in Avenida Senador Teotônio Vilela, 261, the address of the racetrack. But the number of accidents could be even higher, since the cases that occurred on the roads adjacent to the festival site were not taken into consideration. The days with the highest incidence were September 9th, with 356 occurrences, and the September 7th holiday, with 246 reports.

Tickets for the festival were priced at less than R$407.50, indicating an audience with significant purchasing power, making it an attractive target for criminals.

Thefts are already common at festivals

The situation is not unprecedented. Large festivals such as Lollapalooza and Tomorrowland have also been the stage for specialized gang actions. At Tomorrowland, held in Itu between 12 and 14 October, the victims even created a group to exchange information about stolen cell phones, being mocked by the criminals who infiltrated the group. “You think we’re child’s play? Wow, for God’s sake, right, bro. The police don’t give a damn about you, bro,” one of the criminals scoffed.

Action by the authorities

The SSP highlighted that there was a security operation during The Town, with intense police activity and support from the First Tourist Assistance Police Station (Deatur), as well as the Legal Medical Institute (IML) and to the Criminalistic Institute (IC) to assist victims. .

Despite this, less than 1% of the cell phones were recovered.

The municipal organization did not comment on the cases. However, a new edition of the event has been confirmed for 2025.
