Alien series: release date, plot, casting… everything we know about the season, inspired by the movies

What are you doing?

Forget everything you know. The Alien series promises to be independent of the original saga and the two movies made by Ridley Scott in 2011 and 2017. This new storyline should follow the arrival of the first Xenomorph on planet Earth.

What casting for the series?

At the moment, only a few names of the actors are known. None of the original cast members are returning, ruling out the potential return of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley. The series emphasizes young characters. The role of the main character should be played by Sydney Chandler – daughter of Kyle Chandler, who appeared in the movie Don’t Worry Darling.

He vs. Alex Lowther, star of the Netflix series The End of the F** King World; Samuel Blenkin, who appeared in Black Mirror and The Sandman, and Indian actor Adarsh Gourav (White Tiger). We also find actress Essie Davis, known for her role in The Babadook.

What is it?

The Alien saga is returning in two stages: first to the cinema, with a new film from director Fede Alvarez, headed by the Evil Dead remake, which is slated for a summer 2024 release. Then with this series created by Noah Hawley. These two projects are not related.

Recently, at the Austin Film Festival, the screenwriter-creator revealed that he wanted to change the formula: “The thing about Alien is that they are always stuck in a ship or prison. If it wasn’t?“. He explains that he wants to expand the story further: “For a two-hour movie, you wonder who will survive. This cannot be enough for the series.”

Earth as the main environment, Noah Hawley wants to study the terrain: “How are things going on Earth at this time, especially technologically? Where are we? And the question that science fiction always asks: is humanity worth saving?

He also reveals that bringing the Xenomorph to life will be somewhat different to the surprise of fans of the saga.

Where and when can we see it?

The series was originally slated for 2024, but due to the actors’ strike – which is still ongoing – filming, which began in Thailand last June, has been put on hold. The alien should see the light of day only in 2025.

Offered by the Hulu platform in the United States, the series should logically be offered on Disney+ in France.
