‘A Little Gem’, ‘Another Netflix Movie We’re Forgetting’…: Subscribers Split on This Movie for Second Place

In Merchants of Pain, available Friday on Netflix, Emily Blunt and Chris Evans do everything they can to keep their company from going under. Stop doing illegal things.

The platform’s new big film, directed by David Yates, once again focuses on the opioid crisis and how some pharmaceutical companies have gotten rich using unscrupulous marketing methods and little concern for the health of patients.

Although the characters depicted in it do not actually exist, Merchants of Pain is still a good adaptation of a true story and a drug that makes you addicted and kills you.

If Netflix bet everything on the five-star actor, all this did not convince the subscribers. With a 3.1/5 rating on AlloCiné and second place in Best Movies This Monday, the feature film has received fairly mixed reviews.

Viewers have found it generally effective and entertaining, though they remain rather shallow in their treatment of the health crisis, if their profile and comments on Social Network X are to be believed:

“We can also question the necessity of making a 2-hour film if it has to be so careful and superficial. Ultimately, “Pain Hustlers” is an enjoyable piece of entertainment that owes a lot to its fine casting. (AM11)

“This film is generally correct and watchable, although it does not bring much new. The presence of Emily Blunt and Chris Evans is a major asset. (lia)

“Causing scandal, abuse of the pharmaceutical sector and drug trade with the accompanying destruction. Dynamic staging, solid actor E. Directed by Blunt (also producer). Interesting shots that are important for memories, but the interest stops there, it hardly develops emotions.” (Gentilbordelais)

“Overall, a quality, entertaining film, but one that doesn’t really add anything to the previous series (except to learn that the opiate crisis isn’t limited to Purdue Pharma and Oxycontin…)” (Eli Zabet)

As we said Our review of the film, Merchants of Pain is not the best product on the subject. If you want to learn more about the opioid crisis, I recommend streaming Dopesick (Disney+) and Painkiller (Netflix), which are much more true to reality.
