Young man runs over and kills three elderly women after drinking in a bar with friends in SP

According to police, the suspect was speeding when he hit a tree and hit the three elderly women; he was arrested red-handed

A 19-year-old man was arrested red-handed afterwards they run over and kill three elderly women aged 76, 80 and 82, and injuring a young 19-year-old woman, on the morning of this Sunday, the 29th, in Avenida General Ataliba Leonel, Tucuruvi neighborhood, in the North Zone of São Paulo. The victims were on the sidewalk, on their way to church, when they were hit by the vehicle.

According to the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) informed the Earth, military police officers were called to respond to a traffic accident and found the injured elderly women at the scene. The firefighters were called and took two of them to the Santa Maggiore Hospital and the third to the Mandaqui Hospital, but no one survived their injuries.

At the scene, police discovered that the suspect was in a bar with two other friends and drinking alcohol. He was driving the vehicle at high speed when he hit a tree and hit the three elderly women who were on the sidewalk.

There were two passengers on board the car and one of them, the young woman, was injured after the accident and was taken to the emergency room, where she remained hospitalized.

The driver refused to take a breathalyzer test and was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The case was registered as murder, attempted murder and drunkenness by the 73rd DP (Jaçanã). The Police Authority represented before the Court the conversion of the arrest in flagrante delicto into preventive detention.

The driver’s name was not released by the Civil Police, so the Earth did not identify his defense until the last update of this report. The space remains open for demonstrations.

The victims went to church

The victims were on their way to the Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres church when they were hit. They were identified as Alcina Affonso de Franco82 years old, Leonilda Aparecida dos Santos80 years old, and Alzira Rodrigues Alves Teixeirafrom 76.

The religious institution complained about the incident on social media. “It is with regret that we announce that today our sisters Alcina, Alzira and Leonilda went to the Father’s house. We pray that God consoles the hearts of their family and friends. May God welcome them into the Kingdom of Heaven. We thank everyone for the service they have provided dedicated to our parish community”, writes the church.

In other posts, the parish also shared information about the funerals of elderly women. Leonilda will be buried in the Tremembé cemetery this Monday 30th. The farewell will begin at midday, while the burial is scheduled for 4pm.

Alzira’s funeral wake will also take place this Monday, from 1pm to 3pm, at the Salete Funeral Home. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 4pm, in the Jardim Horto Florestal cemetery.

Alcina’s farewell will take place on Tuesday 31st at the Salete Funeral Home. The period for gifts and farewells will be from 8.00 to 12.00.

Tributes from family and friends

On social media, family and friends mourned the deaths of the elderly women and called for justice. “Three friends of faith, of prayer, of charity, who went to the Father’s house. They went to mass on Sunday, the Lord’s Day. They were in communion with God. My condolences to their family and friends, may God console the their hearts broken with grief,” wrote a church colleague.

“Very sad! May God bless their souls and may they be welcomed with open arms. They were wonderful people, women of faith, prayer and huge hearts. A great loss to all their friends and family. I hope those responsible are punished. I’m very sad,” lamented another.

Alcina’s grandson also mourned his grandmother’s death. “Yesterday [sábado]we saw each other for the last time, you were happy, with your family, you joked about my tardiness, as always. […] But his time on earth has come to an end. He didn’t have to go like this, with a crime, but God knows what he’s doing and in that moment you’re in a better place. […] You are the kindest person I have ever met in my entire life, you always welcomed everyone with a smile on your face and your unmistakable friendliness. It will forever be eternal, grandmother, your legacy is greater than anything and now you will be happy in heaven, with your grandfather and with your friends,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
