The fallthe thriller film that became a critical and commercial success for Lionsgate in 2022 is about to become a franchise, with Capstone Studios greenlighting two sequels.
“These two new sequels are wonderful opportunities to expand on the original. We want to take the franchise even further, bringing together the best team and ideas to deliver the next breathtaking, emotion-filled, death-defying film for global audiences,” said Mercuri.
“I am excited to continue the journey of The fall and take it to the next level,” Mann added. “We have a truly special cinematic experience planned and I am immensely grateful to my fellow producers for supporting the vision. I’m also excited to work with new collaborators, as well as reunite with the original group, and of course I can’t wait to get back to filming thousands of feet in the air.”
The fall 2 AND The fall 3 will bring back the original characters from the first film, leaving room for the introduction of new ones.
The fall
The first film followed two best friends – played by Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner – who climbed 2,000 feet to the top of an abandoned radio tower and found themselves trapped with no way back down. Their climbing skills were put to the test as they desperately struggled to survive the elements, lack of supplies and dizzying heights.
The original film was a surprising critical and commercial success, reaching number one in several countries around the world and grossing over $20 million at the box office on a budget of just $3 million.
It was recently nominated for a Golden Rooster, China’s equivalent of the Oscar, as best foreign film. The original film also used TrueSync technology from Flawless, the company of which Mann is co-CEO, which works in the field of artificial intelligence and was used to transform the swear words in Gardner’s film into more family-friendly language.
The film The fall is available in Brazil on Amazon Prime Video.
