Netflix: This romantic movie just came out for sheer indifference and is worth at least one shot

Usually, romantic movies made Netflix is ​​not a dream. But when they create authors, it’s a different story. This is the case of Nuovo Olimpo. Turkish-Italian filmmaker Ferzan Ozpetek, discovered in 1997 by Hamam, a Turkish bath, directs a drama inspired by his own life. It tells the story of a romantic passion between two men in Italy from 1978 to 2015.

Enea (Damiano Gavino) is a novice director. Pietro (Andrea Di Luigi) continues his medical studies. The eyes of two heroes meet on a street corner during the shooting of a movie. They later end up at the Nuovo Olimpo, a movie theater located in the center of Rome. We quickly learn that the facility is also a secret meeting place for homosexuals.

After a violent demonstration, Aenea and Pietro separate. But their love will endure for each other. The film follows the evolution of these two men, and the audience secretly hopes that life will eventually bring them together. That’s what Nuovo Olimpo is: unwavering passion. 1988, 1993, 2015… Decades come and go, faces change, but the memory remains.

Ferzan Ozpetek signs a romantic film and uses the codes of melodrama to capture his audience. Some of the slow movements flirt with the edge of kitsch, but above all we remember its delicacy and obvious sincerity. It is obvious because the director is telling his own life. Ferzan Ozpetek always addressed homosexuality in his cinema through detached or hidden characters.

In Nuovo Olimpo there is also an issue of choice and regret, but the drama highlights a true and great homosexual love story that few actually know about. Therefore, it is all the more disappointing that the platform distributes it discreetly without any promotion. For these reasons, Nuovo Olimpo must be seen and shared. A beautiful romantic movie made Netflix? This cannot be run.
