Prime Video: The superhero code-breaking series returns for a second season!

No, Marvel and DC Comics do not have a monopoly on superheroes. While the licenses from the two iconic American publishing houses are experiencing a slowdown at the box office, there are still a few series that are exceptions to this phenomenon of superhero fatigue.

This is especially true of Invincible, an animated series produced by Prime Video and adapted from the comic book of the same name written by Robert Kirkman. Among the most famous American comic book authors, the latter is especially known to readers for his famous series The Walking Dead, or even for Marvel Zombies.

Published by Image Comics in the United States, Invincible is unrelated to the DC and Marvel multiverses and therefore offers its own mythology. Its story takes place in a world similar to ours, but where many superheroes and supervillains coexist, as well as extraterrestrials.

A universe independent of the big superhero franchises

The strongest superhero in this universe is called Omni-Man. Hailing from the planet Viltrum, the latter has superpowers. Like Superman, in terms of power, Omni-Man is still different from the Man of Steel both in appearance (brush cut and gray moustache) and his brutal and fragile personality.

Omni-Man is the father of Invincible, the young titular hero. Real name Mark Grayson, this Viltrum half-blood teenager discovers that he has the same powers as his father and decides to train to become a superhero himself.

This dual identity forces him to experience the worries of adolescence (school life, first love, etc.) while learning to live sober. The series also features other up-and-coming heroes, including Atom Eve, a heroine who decides to use her powers for the good of the planet and its most needy population.

Much more than just a secondary character, the young woman was given her own spin-off, with a special episode airing on July 21, 2023, and devoted entirely to the latter’s origin (Invincible only makes an appearance). The end is symbolic. of the episode).

Its status as a stand-alone series allows Invincible not to compromise on the content it offers. Like The Boys, which is also available on Prime Video, the animated series doesn’t shy away from going too far in terms of on-screen violence.

Omni-Man’s powers allow him to reduce his enemies to pulp, and no fan of the series will ever forget the terrifying fight at the end of season 1 in the subway station. However, Invincible is not just a series of scary scenes.

Season 2 is divided into two parts

If it is a pastiche of superhero stories, the series is also imbued with codes of teenage comedy. Like Peter Parker, one of Robert Kirkman’s favorite characters, Mark Grayson’s double life is a metaphor for the problems of adolescence.

Thus, learning to be a superhero is actually learning to be an adult for him. It wouldn’t be surprising if his father, Omni-Man, told him that proverb “With great power comes great responsibility” If only he was as well-meaning as Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben (which he definitely isn’t).

A true teen series aimed at an adult audience, Invincible is one of the top-rated superhero series on AlloCiné, with an average viewership rating of 4.3/5 (tied with Daredevil).

Remember that due to the strike that has paralyzed Hollywood since last spring, Season 2 of Invincible will be broadcast in two parts on Prime Video, but a third season has already been ordered by the platform!

Therefore, the first four episodes of Season 2 can be discovered this Friday, November 3 (one episode per week), although the next four will be broadcast later in 2024.
