Three points away from “goal” to escape relegation, San Paolo wants more: “Obligation”

Sao Paulo reached 42 points in the standings by winning 1-0 over Cruzeiro this Thursday in Morumbi in the Brazilian championship. Now the Tricolor is only three points away from the “goal” set by many mathematicians to free the team from the much feared relegation, i.e. 45 points, but coach Dorival Júnior wants his team to do more than necessary to remain in Serie A.

“San Paolo must not look at it from that perspective. It must try to have the best possible position in a championship to which we have had to pay particular attention several times in these two competitions. [Copa do Brasil e Copa Sul-Americana] and we are committed to participating in the Brasileirão,” said Dorival Júnior.

Sao Paulo has seven more matches in the Brazilian championship before the end of the season. The team will return to the field only next Wednesday, against Red Bull Bragantino, at 8pm (Brasilia time), in Vila Belmiro, given that this weekend Fluminense, which would be their opponent in the group, will play the final of the Libertadores against Boca Juniors.

In addition to Bragança Paulista, the Tricolor will also face Santos, Fluminense, Cuiabá, Bahia, Atlético-MG and Flamengo. Of these seven matches, only three will San Paolo be the home team.

“We will do our best in these last matches. We have the obligation to bring San Paolo to a much better position. We never talk about fighting for relegation. Respect for our position. It is above all about fighting so that we can be in a better position, much better,” added Dorival Júnior.
