UEFA will be part of the Ballon d’Or organization from 2024

UEFA has partnered with Groupe Amaury to host the prestigious Ballon d’Or from 2024, European football’s governing body said on Friday.

Groupe Amaury, owners of France Football and L’Équipe, will continue to own the Ballon d’Or brand and will oversee the voting system so it remains independent.

UEFA said it will stage the annual ceremony and market its global commercial rights, adding two new awards for the best coach of the year in men’s and women’s football.

The partnership means that the UEFA awards for best player and best coach will no longer exist. But the body will continue to present the President’s Award, as well as awards for the best player in each of its competitions.

“For almost 70 years, the Ballon d’Or has been the most prestigious individual award in the world of football and is a testament to the extraordinary skill, dedication and impact of football legends and their indelible mark on the history of the sport,” he said. stated UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

“UEFA club and national team competitions are considered the biggest global stages for elite players, often playing a key role in a player’s quest for great heights and their place in football’s pantheon.”

“UEFA and the Ballon d’Or are synonymous with sporting excellence, so our partnership will be a natural mix of prominence and a synergy that promises to be nothing short of exceptional.”

FIFA partnered with the Ballon d’Or between 2010 and 2015, before world football’s governing body created “The Best” awards, which have been awarded annually since 2016.

Argentina star Lionel Messi won his eighth Ballon d’Or on Monday, while Spain’s world champion and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí won the women’s award.
