Baiana Nathalia Tourinho goes to the final and seeks the title at Clube Bahiano de Tênis. Decisions start at 9.00

The finalists of the 38th edition of the Bahia Juniors Cup have been defined, in Salvador (BA), one of the most important youth tournaments in the country and those that reveal the greatest talents of national tennis. The event takes place in the Clube Bahiano de Tênis, in the Graça neighborhood, and is in collaboration with SUDESB and SETRE – Secretariat of Labour, Employment, Income and Sports of the Government of the State of Bahia.
Guest of the organization and 14 year old, Luis Miguel, Wimbledon semi-finalist in his category, decided in the 18 year old category, his first final at his second world tournament. He beat Gustavo Albieri 7/6 (7/4) 6/2 and will decide the trophy against fourth favorite Stephan Noale, who defeated second-seeded Henrique Brito 6/4 2/6 7/5. The decision will be made on Saturday at 9.00.
“Very happy to have reached the final. It was an incredible week for me. First set today very tough, without breaks, I raised the level in the tie-break. In the second set I was in control. Very happy with this victory and we will do the maximum in this final”, underlined Luis Miguel.
At 10:30 the women’s final will take place between Sthefany Lima of Sao Paulo, seeded 2, against Jamaican Alyssa James. Sthefany beat Maria Oliveira 6/2 6/3 while Alyssa beat Rio Grande do Sul’s Laura Badia 6/1 2/0 when the Brazilian withdrew due to physical problems.
In the 14 year old category, with points for the South American Cosat ranking, Nathalia Tourinho won the Bahian semi-final against Gabriela Bettoni with a double 6/1 and will face Mariana Ramos in the decision. Tourinho is the granddaughter of one of the creators of the Bahia Juniors Cup, former Copa Banco Econômico, Luís Tarquínio. In the men’s 14, Lorenzo Corsini and Gustavo Holanda play in the final. In the women’s round of 16 the decision will be between Isabela Silva and Giulia Ferreira. In the men’s category, João Prudêncio and André Jun play the final. The finals for both categories will begin at 9.00.
In total there are 350 athletes from seven countries (Brazil, Holland, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and Jamaica) covering all categories from the World Cup up to 18 years, including the South American Cosat (16 and 14 years) and the Brazilian Championship (12 years). The number is a historic record for the event.
The Bahia Juniors Cup has the task of revealing the great talents of Brazilian tennis. In recent years, João Fonseca was the 2021 champion and recently won the US Open title. In 2017, Thiago Wild lifted the trophy in the final against Sebastian Baez. The following year he won the junior US Open and is now in the top 80 of the professional rankings. Sebastian Baez placed second in the same edition and is now among the 30 in the world in professional competitions.
The Bahia Juniors Cup has already revealed other big names in national tennis such as Gustavo Kuerten, champion of the 16 year old category, in 1993 in an epic final against Bahia’s Duda Catharino, now director of the event. Other names present at the event were Fernando Meligeni, Marcelo Melo, Teliana Pereira, among others.
