After the backlash on social media, a US resident clarified the situation; learn more
Bree, based in Minnesota, USA, is known for her diverse style, full of facial piercings. However, one of her piercings attracted so much attention that it became the target of surprises and speculation on social media. This is the piercing in her left eyeball, which intrigued Instagram users when she shared a video of her showing off a small metal bar that appeared to go through the side of her pupil. The story was reported by the newspaper Extra.
Internet users’ comments range from admiration to perplexity. One commented: “Looks nice but really painful,” while another asked: “How do you blink?” The fact behind the eye piercing piqued the curiosity of viewers.
However, faced with the virtual repercussions, Bree decided to clarify the situation. What appeared to be an eyeball piercing is actually a custom-made prosthetic eye. In her words, “It’s a prosthetic eye made by @Christina_Oculara, the most amazing ocularist. I can’t feel it when I blink and no, I can’t see.”
@apocalypticautopsy Yes they are real gems, no I can’t feel them, no they are not painful and no I can’t see out of that eye. it’s a prosthesis made by my incredible Ocularist #CapCut #eye piercing #eye #piercedeye #👁️ #fakepiercing #falseeye #prostheticeye #oneeyedgang #cristinaoculare #funeyefund #funeye ♬ original sound – K★S
In a later video, Bree shared more details of her story. “When I was pregnant with my second child in 2020, I didn’t feel any pain, I had no vision problems, but I went to my local eye doctor for regular checkups. He noticed a dilated blood vessel in the corner of my left eye.”
Medical tests revealed that Bree was facing a worrying diagnosis: ocular melanoma, the most common type of eye cancer. The “only option” presented by doctors was to remove the affected eye to prevent the cancer from spreading.
“The only option left to me was to have one eye removed so the cancer wouldn’t spread to my liver. The doctors told me that if I did nothing, my life expectancy would be about a year, and they told me they encouraged me to have my eye removed,” he explained.
Bree’s revelation triggered an outpouring of support and praise on her social media. One follower expressed excitement, writing, “This is awesome! People should have fun customizing their prosthetics!” Another noted the quality of the prosthetic, saying, “It looked so real!” And a third netizen, although aware that it was a prosthesis, still expressed his surprise: “I know it’s a prosthesis, but it looks painful!”
