An elderly man is killed inside the Itaim Paulista police station

According to the Secretariat of Public Security, the man threatened the police officers with a knife and resisted their approach.

A 77-year-old man was killed by a military police officer in the 50th police district (Itaim Paulista), in the east of St. Paul, Monday night 6. According to the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), the man was shot after threatening the police with a knife and resisting the approach. The Homicide and Personal Protection Department (DHPP) is investigating the case.

According to the SSP, military police officers were inside the 50th DP and were recording an incident when the elderly man entered, stood next to one of the police officers and stated that he was “tired.” Then he allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked the police officer.

According to the SSP, the police tried to calm the elderly man and fired two taser shots. “The elderly man tore off the spikes and continued to walk towards the police officers. The officers fired warning shots at the ground in an attempt to dissuade the elderly man, but to no avail. The man then ran towards one of the police officers, but was hit,” the secretary says.

The firefighters were called and transferred the elderly man to the Santa Marcelina do Itaim Paulista hospital, but he did not resist.

The weapons of the police officers involved in the case, as well as the knife used by the man, were seized and subjected to forensic examinations. The case was recorded as “threat, resistance and death arising from opposition to police intervention” in the same 50th DP, which sought advice from the DHPP.
