Nintendo announced Tuesday evening (7) that it will produce, in collaboration with Sony Pictures, a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda, one of the developer’s most famous game series.
Interestingly, Ball, the director announced for the production, stated on another occasion – in 2010 – that he would like to see a film about the game, even if his chances of directing were slim. So, with Nintendo’s statement, it seems like the possibilities were much greater than the director thought.
Created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, The Legend of Zelda franchise is, together with Mario Bros. and Pokemón, one of Nintendo’s best-known classics. The game follows a young elf (Link) who, along with Princess Zelda, battles Ganon to save the Kingdom of Hyrule.
The franchise has already released 19 games, the latest of which was in May this year, and has sold more than 130 million copies worldwide.
