Brett Matthews spoke about the end of bequests with television line and teased that the ending will align with the previous one RST endings:
Many seasons of The Vampire Diaries ended this way. The penultimate episode was what most shows would consider the end, and then the final episode was a disaster. It’s something we’ve always wanted to do with Legacies, which is a little more action and cheating than other series in the franchise, but we never got the chance. It turned out to be the perfect opportunity.
While the Season 4 finale may not have been entirely planned out as a series finale, it looks like it will end on a pretty good note no matter what. The penultimate episode certainly gave it all, but there will still be some surprises in store for the final episode.

It’s unclear if she’ll be back for the series finale, but hopefully Lizzie or Alaric will let us know how she’s doing.
