Jurassic Park may be one of the most popular films of Steven Spielberg’s career, but the famous blockbuster, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, is not 100% perfect. While our Faux Raccord experts have already been able to point out the technician’s hand placed on the back of the raptor in the legendary cooking scene, another far more significant error was spotted by the insect specialist.
Let us remind you that in order to make his dinosaurs appear in the feature film, the billionaire John Hammond extracted the blood of their ancestors inside a mosquito fossilized in an amber fossil several million years ago and combined it with the DNA of amphibians.
A scenario that even the most discerning viewers would find far-fetched, given that a mosquito’s blood could not be kept intact for so long.
But even if it were possible, John Hammond would never have reached his dinosaurs with this mosquito. Indeed, as the prestigious entomologist Joe Conlon revealed in 2013, the specimen we observe on top of the billionaire’s cane could not:
“ have existed for about 170 million years.said the scientist interviewed Business Insider. “Unfortunately, the species featured in Jurassic Park – Toxorhynchites rutilus – does not feed on blood. In fact, it’s the only type of mosquito that doesn’t.”
But the mistake of the teams who chose this particular mosquito to appear in Spielberg’s film. Indeed, according to the fans Jurassic Park Wiki, the insect in question not only belongs to the only species that does not bite, but it will also be a male, as evidenced by its scaly antennae. However, we know that among mosquitoes, only females suck the blood of other animals.
In short, with the mosquito we see in John Hammond’s cane head, the Jurassic Park teams didn’t have a chance to recreate the dinos!
