“I will come back.” Forty years after the first iteration of this iconic copy of the T-800, Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron’s warnings about the dangers of artificial intelligence, and after several sequels that vacillated between masterpiece (Terminator 2) and disappointment (Terminator Dark Fate), the Terminator franchise. is relaunching on Netflix via an animated event series, the first teaser of which has been released online:
Entrusted to the artists of Japanese animation studio Production IG (already working on Ghost in the Shell, among others) under the supervision of Makashi Kudo and written by Matheson Tomlin, co-writer of Batman with Robert Pattinson and currently based on the BRZRKR script with Keanu Reeves, Terminator: The Anime Series will have a first season of eight episodes.

Obviously, there will be issues of humanity’s war against Skynet and its machines, time travel and artificial intelligence, but the synopsis suggests that the series will be freed from the Connor family (Sarah and John) to expand the story. An appropriate choice that helped break out of the script impasse that caused every feature film (and even the live-action series The Sarah Connor Chronicles) to revolve around these two characters. Netflix has yet to announce a launch date. But 2024 would be an obvious choice to be part of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the release of the James Cameron classic, hosted by Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michelle Biehn.
