After a long series of games without a win, Santos recovered in the Brazilian championship and opened a gap away from the relegation zone. One of the main culprits for this surge, coach Marcelo Fernandes thanked the Juventus team on Sunday.
After the 0-0 draw against São Paulo, in Vila Belmiro, the commander declared that the players are very focused on saving Peixe from an unprecedented relegation.
“My satisfaction with this group is immense. It is humanly impossible to have such a tough sequence. There are six games in a series. In Porto Alegre we had a strong setback, but we put a stop to it. My team won six matches with me, four away, against Palmeiras, Flamengo, Goiás and Bahia”, he said.
“These guys are integrating a lot, they have a lot of desire. Everyone knows what we are doing. My level of satisfaction is very high, they are working hard. Nobody believed it. Yes, we know the size of the company we have. won difficult matches away from home. I just have to thank these players and the fans. Things are following a path worthy of Santos’ history,” he added.
Santos have not lost since October 22, when they were beaten 7-1 by Internacional. Since then there have been six matches, with three wins and three draws.
Since Marcelo Fernandes took charge, there have been 11 matches, with six wins, three draws and two defeats.
With the draw with Sao Paulo, Santos wasted a good opportunity to gain another advantage over the relegation zone. The team is 14th, with 42 points, seven more than Cruzeiro, which opens the Z4.
Now Peixe will have a week off from training due to the FIFA date. The club returns to the pitch on Sunday 26th, at 4pm, against Botafogo, at Nilton Santos, for the 35th matchday of the Brasileirão.
