Paulo Autuori reveals why he accepted the offer to be Cruzeiro’s coach

Coach Paulo Autuori, announced as interim by Cruzeiro this Tuesday (14), revealed the reasons why he agreed to coach Raposa even after declaring in August that he would no longer hold the post of coach in Brazil. The then technical director filled the position left vacant by Zé Ricardo, fired after the defeat against Coritiba, which caused the team to sink into Z4 of the Brasileirão.

Autuori, at Minas Gerais since August, takes over with the aim of avoiding relegation to Serie B. In a press conference at Toca da Raposa, the current coach said he accepted Cruzeiro’s proposal only out of “gratitude and loyalty” . “, especially in a difficult moment, reiterating that he will not work as a coach from 2024 onwards.

– This is a completely different time, there will be six matches, in less than a month I will finish (my coaching job). Football is life, my challenge is life, not football. It is life in this sense: the complicated moment of a degraded institution – said Paulo Autuori.

– In all the time available to do so many wrong things and bring an institution of this magnitude to the point it has reached, I am grateful to Cruzeiro, for allowing me to participate in a victorious campaign, I earn nothing, I participate in victorious campaigns with victorious groups. I’m grateful for that. Also for the loyalty I have towards the people who are at Cruzeiro today, who will experience good and bad moments and, above all, loyalty towards the project, in which I believe very much.

This will be Autuori’s fourth period at the helm of the Minas Gerais club, which currently occupies 17th place in the standings, with 37 points won, one less than Bahia, which opens the Z4.

With six games remaining in the national competition, Raposa faces two direct opponents in the fight against relegation: Vasco (home) and Goiás (away).
