The director’s chair is vacant, as franchise veteran David Yates has already stated that he will not fill that position.

Although the lineups for the new Harry Potter series on HBO Max will begin in 2024, information on the reboot of the franchise is still scarce. Even if the novelist JK Rowling has been confirmed as executive producer of the series, it is not yet known what other creative minds will be behind the project – because the writers and directors have not yet been officially announced.



It’s no surprise that director David Yates been considered: he was responsible for the last four episodes of Harry Potter and also directed the three films in the series Fantastic animals. This makes Yates one of the people who played a key role in shaping the franchise, even beyond the original Harry Potter film series. Almost no one is as familiar with the fantasy series as he is.

In fact, Yates recently commented that he wouldn’t rule out the franchise entirely. However, the director explained that this does not include the Harry Potter series on HBO Max.
