Finally available in France, the highly anticipated spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was released on November 10th on Paramount+. It takes the famous character from the hit series, still played by Norman Reedus, on a perilous journey to post-apocalyptic France, where a new type of zombies roam, which the survivors have never encountered before.
The program teams also decided to focus on authenticity by filming Daryl’s entire adventure in France. The sense of detail, in addition to offering the French public a very satisfying experience, allows them to find some emblematic places on the screen. A quick overview of the various locations that serve as the setting for the series!
South of France
It is on the beaches of Provence, not far from Marseille, that in the first minutes of the spin-off, poorly Daryl washes up. Very quickly you find yourself at the French destinations, the scene is set. The wonderful connoisseurs will further identify the area of Martiguez Island where a man passes on his way to the Atlantic coast.
On his journey, we can see him crossing the famous Pont du Gard and approaching the city of Lourdes, as suggested by the road sign. Not far from there, at least in the series, is an abbey where a group of nuns live together, including Isabelle, a character played by French woman Clémence Poesy.
It is the Abbey of Montmajor in Arles that was chosen to set this residence, although it is actually much further away from Lourdes than the sequence in Episode 1 suggests.
“The goal was to find different places . We looked for authentic places to avoid the clichés we sometimes see when France is portrayed on TV or in movies. “ Olivier Servanini, who is responsible for filming, explains in an interview AMC channel.
capital of France
An almost essential move to his time on French soil, Daryl Dixon also takes to the streets of Paris, as seen in one of the series’ first teasers released this summer. It’s time for viewers to see the Eiffel Tower in a very bad state, but not only…
Really, what better setting than the catacombs of Paris to film a zombie series? It was in this historic location, the largest underground ossuary in the world, that some scenes of the spin-off were filmed.
Among other buildings and neighborhoods highlighted on the screen, in the background we find Montmartre Cemetery, the banks of the Seine, the Statue of Liberty in Paris and the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Normandy
During his journey, Daryl Dixon also allows us to see an emblematic place of our heritage, Mont Saint-Michel and its famous abbey. A place with history and especially cinematography!
Not forgetting a visit to the Cwellmer Boat Graveyard in St. Malo and Utah Beach, the famous Landing Beach. So many exceptional locations that fans can now add to their bucket list to follow in the footsteps of their favorite survivor. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 has already begun filming and will take place in the Paris region, among other locations.
The first 2 episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are available on Paramount+, with subsequent episodes being broadcast weekly.
