After the incredible critical and commercial success of Star Wars in 1977 (re Episode IV – A New Hope), Fox is pushing George Lucas to continue working on it. The latter started writing the screenplay, but entrusted the director to Irwin Kershner.
Released in 1980, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back is more successful than its predecessor. While the sequels are generally less beloved than the original films, this installment remains a fan favorite to this day.
