Under the leadership of Diniz, the Brazilian team reaches a series of negative marks in 2023

The 2-1 against Colombia last Thursday consolidated the second consecutive defeat for the Brazilian team in these qualifiers. The poor result in Barranquilla also caused the team led by Fernando Diniz to score a series of negative votes.

The defeat at the Stadio Metropolitano marked the first time Brazil had been beaten by Colombia in the history of the competition. The Seleção had also helped another opponent break a taboo, when Uruguay defeated the team 2-0 in the latest FIFA Data and achieved their first victory against the Canarinhos in 22 years.

The two results also symbolize the first time in history that Brazil lost two consecutive matches in qualifying.

Also taking into account the period in which Ramon Menezes took over on an interim basis, the Seleção is experiencing its worst start to the post-World Cup cycle since 2002. This year the defense has already leaked 13 times, with as many goals conceded in 2020, 2021 and 2022 .

Now Fernando Diniz will have a few days to try to fix the team before the next round of this FIFA meeting. Brazil will return to action on Tuesday when they face Argentina at the Maracanã. The classic is scheduled for 9.30pm (Brasilia time).

The Seleção currently occupy fifth place in the qualifying table, with just seven points from five matches. In the event of a further defeat in the next round, the team could be overtaken and excluded from the World Cup qualification zone.
