The American network NBC has confirmed that the fantasy series “La Brea” will end with the third season. The final season will premiere on January 9 in the US and will only have six episodes to wrap up the plot.
The short season was produced in emergency so that the episodes would be ready before the Hollywood strike. The production was taped before the closures, as part of the channel’s strategy to air a new program in early 2024.
“La Brea” — which earned the national subtitle of “The Lost Land” — was the first series created by David Appelbaum (producer-writer of “The Mentalist” and “NCIS: New Orleans”), but despite the positive response among audiences, which earned it a good audience, its mix of a disaster plot and a classic Jules Verne/Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure did not attract critics, with only a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The story begins with a giant hole opening in Los Angeles, swallowing several people. But instead of dying, the victims of the tragedy end up at the center of the Earth among prehistoric creatures and futuristic buildings, amidst clues to the true secret of that place.
The production features a large cast, including Natalie Zea (“Justified”), Eoin Macken (“Night Duty”), Nicholas Gonzalez (“The Good Doctor”), Jon Seda (“Chicago PD”), Karina Logue (“NCIS : Los Angeles”), Catherine Dent (“Agents of SHIELD”), Angel Parker (“Marvel’s Runaways/Runaways”), Jag Bal (“The Romeo Section”), Ione Skye (“Camping”), Chiké Okonkwo (“The Birth of a Nation”), Chloe de los Santos (“Tidelands”), Josh McKenzie (“Lies”) and teenagers Jack Martin, Zyra Gorecki and Veronica St. Clair in their first roles.
In Brazil, the series is available on the Globoplay platform and broadcast on TV Globo.
