Doctor Who: Before the new season, very good news for fans of the series

The Doctor Who series returns this Saturday, November 25, with the first of three episodes to celebrate its sixtieth anniversary. The future of the franchise is bright with the upcoming introduction of an all-new artist for a new, unique season of the iconic program.

Created on November 23, 1963, Doctor Who has been able to survive through the ages thanks to a plot that allows its protagonist – an alien who travels through space and time – to regularly change his appearance every time his life is in danger.

Originally from 1963 to 1989, the series aired on television in 2005 as a continuation of the previous eight Doctor adventures. After his return, five actors followed each other in the role: Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker (the first woman chosen to portray the Doctor).

The next artist has already been selected: This is Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education). But while logic would have dictated that the latter would appear in the fourteenth season, it seems more like the series is preparing for a new beginning.

Showrunner Russell T Davies (Years and Years) has revealed that the next episodes of Doctor Who will be part of the first season, presumably to launch a sort of reboot of the series to attract a whole new generation of viewers.

During the interview given on the website Radio TimesThe English screenwriter also revealed that he is working on an episode scheduled for May 2025, with the next season set to air next spring. All this therefore suggests that the new version of Doctor Who has already been renewed by the BBC for a second season.

Episodes of Doctor Who are now only available on Disney+.
