Girona sought victory until the end at the Montilivi stadium, but was forced to a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao this Monday (27), in the 14th round of the Spanish championship. The result ends a run of six victories for the Catalan team, leaders of La Liga at the start of the group, and leaves Real Madrid at the top of the table.
The hosts took the lead in the 10th minute of the second half, with a goal from Viktor Tsyhankov. But Iñaki Williams tried to keep everything the same at 22 years old. Savinho, one of the highlights of the season, started, while full-back Yan Couto came on in the final phase.
In this way, Girona reaches the same 35 points as Real Madrid. But the team led by Carlo Ancelotti appears to be ahead on goal difference. Athletic Bilbao, however, occupies fifth place, with 25 points.
Real Madrid, in fact, beat Cadiz 3-0 with a great performance from Rodrygo, who scored two goals and assisted Jude Bellingham to close the score. The Englishman is the top scorer in the championship, with 11 balls in the net.
Girona returns to the field next Saturday, for the 15th round, away against Valencia away from home. On the same day, Athletic Bilbao hosts Rayo Vallecano. Also on Saturday, league leaders Real Madrid will face second-to-last Granada.
