This is Sambre’s revelation: Who is Jonathan Turnbull as the incredible Dino Scala?

A new face that explodes the screen. Since its broadcast on France 2 in mid-November, Sambre has been both a critical and popular success.

The six-episode miniseries drew between 3 and 3.7 million viewers, placing it second in the audience for its first two nights of airing and its first finale night.

Since then, Sambre has even allowed France 2 to break a record that dates back to 2019, with almost a million extra people on D+8 for the launch night of a mini-series.

A mini-series inspired by a dramatic true story

As a reminder, Sambre is loosely inspired by the so-called “Sambre Bully” case. In the late 1980s, in northern France, women were raped early in the morning, always in the same way, on the same road along the Sambre River.

The police, who do not understand the scope of the case, do not establish a connection between them. The justice system quickly finds itself overwhelmed with accumulated files.

It will take thirty years to arrest a man who during that period does not stop attacking women and who is responsible for at least fifty rapes or sexual assaults.

Adapted from the eponymous work by journalist and screenwriter Alice Gero, Sambre chronicles the hunt for the “Sambre Outlaw” from 1988 to 2018, and the way the latter has managed to slip through the cracks all that time.

Each episode takes a different point of view, alternating between that of the victim, the justice system, the political authorities, the scientific team, the police, or even the perpetrator.

The cast of the miniseries includes Alix Poisson (Parental Instructions, Jeux d’influence, Germinal), Pauline Parigo (HPI, Sentinels), Noemi Lvovsky (I’m Not Afraid of Life, Camille Repeats), Clemens Poesy (Harry Potter, In Therapy, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon), as well as Olivier Gourmand (The Promise, Rosetta, Intimate Faith).

Already seen Sentinels and See Paris again

But the show’s breakout star is undoubtedly Jonathan Turnbull, whose portrayal of Enzo, a character inspired by “The Bully of Sambri,” has caught the eye.
