The Danish actor is enjoying himself while visiting the Marrakesh International Film Festival – where he received a gold star. At a master class organized to look at his entire career, he reveals the reason that prompts American producers to turn to him to make the characters difficult: “It’s my accent. It’s as simple as that.”
“Before there were Germans, then Englishmen, then Russians. And somehow they fell in love with the Danish accent. And if Americans see something they like, they try to copy ithe continues before adding: There’s a big difference between Marvel and James Bond, so I’m lucky to have different villains, but I never think about it too much. In Denmark we don’t differentiate between bad guys and good guys. We tend to think of them as complex characters.”

One of the most complex characters of his career was developed on the small screen with Hannibal, the series for which Mads Mikkelsen played the famous doctor for three seasons. An opportunity for an actor to dive deeper into a role: “In movies, we have two hours to tell a character. I was three years old. So I could always come up with new ideas, especially since this role doesn’t follow a traditional psychological pattern. I had a lot of fun.”
Mads Mikkelsen will soon star in the horror film Dust Bunny, directed by Bryan Fuller, the creator and screenwriter of the Hannibal series. In particular, he will go up against Sigourney Weaver.
