Hostage released by Hamas says she underwent veterinary surgery during abduction

Mia Shem suffered an arm injury and had to receive treatment in captivity

Mia Shem, one of the Israeli hostages released by Hamas, went through hardships during the 55 days she was kidnapped by the Palestinian group. According to the young woman’s aunt, she was operated on by a veterinarian.

In an interview with The Jerusalem Post Office, Vivian Hadar said her 21-year-old niece did not have a doctor to undergo arm surgery and that she is traumatized. “She IS thin and weak. She did ‘physiotherapy’ on her own (…) and she knew she needed hand massages,” she explained.

“I didn’t ask many questions because we saw that it was difficult for her. We are happy that she is with us. It is difficult to see her in this situation,” he added.

The release of the young woman almost caused a health problem for her father. David Schem said that she “almost had a heart attack.” “I didn’t feel well. It was the best day in the world and all the hostages will return. I’m sure of it. We won’t give up,” he said.
