Alvinegro is in fifth place in the Brasileirão, with 64 points, and is not counting only on himself to secure the direct classification to the groups

Botafogo are firmly out of the Brazilian title race, but are still trying to qualify for the group stage of the Libertadores. After all, after ten games without a win this year, Alvinegro has dropped to fifth place in the table, with 62 points, and if they finish in that position, they would advance to the preliminary stage of the competition. But to reach the final goal you have to defeat three rivals: Grêmio, Flamengo and Atlético-MG.

Glorioso’s story, in fact, is simple. It is enough to beat Internacional on Wednesday (6), at 9.30pm, in Beira-Rio, for the 38th and final round, as well as cheering for the stumble of only one of the leading teams. Tricolor Gaúcho is fourth, with 65 points, behind Rubro-Negro, third, and Galo, second, both with 66. Their opponents are Fluminense, San Paolo and Bahia respectively.

Botafogo therefore still has the hope of entering the Libertadores group next year. Especially because, in the eventual need to break the constraint in the criteria, this would be advantageous. In the event of a triumph over Colorado and a draw for Flamengo or Atlético-MG, for example, the number of points and victories would be three, however Alvinegro would have the better of the balance: they have 23.

Boat in Botafogo?

The club and the fans themselves see access to the group stage almost as an obligation after the disappointment of losing the title, which fell to Palmeiras. The failure in the race for the cup even made the board move even before the end of Serie A, regarding the planning for 2024. So much so that the right back Di Plácido, on loan from Lanús, was informed that he would not remain in the group for next season. Other names will be announced by the end of the month.

Two of them are goalkeeper Lucas Perri and defender Adryelson, who has an advance agreement with Lyon, another club that belongs to entrepreneur John Textor.
