Netflix has stories of crime and robbery that leave the public on the sidelines, but it also has the other side of the coin: movies and series starring people who use their wonderful powers for good and justice.
The following is a list of the best superhero productions available on Netflix that ask for nothing more than Marvel & DC Comics movies and series.
“The Umbrella Academy”
On February 15, 2019, Netflix premiered “The Umbrella Academy”, a series inspired by a comic book of the same name written by Gerard Way. They are the Hargreeves brothers, people with special powers who were adopted by a billionaire to form a team to save the world.
Vania, unlike her brothers, has no strength, but after the death of her stepfather, she discovers a secret that could endanger the world.
“How to raise a superhero?”
Most superhero stories focus on the person who, for one reason or another, gains strength. But that is not the case with this series, in which the case revolves around a woman whose son becomes the most powerful eight-year-old boy in the world.
After the death of her husband, Nicole has to raise her son Dion on her own. What was already a difficult task becomes even more complicated when the protagonist discovers that her little one can become invisible and move things with his mind.
From that moment on, Dion must learn to control his abilities, while his mother protects him from a mysterious organization that wants to capture him to study his powers.
“The old guard”
Charlize Theron stars in “The Old Guard”, an original Netflix movie based on a comic book of the same name, written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro FernĂ¡ndez.
This is a group of immortal mercenaries that have existed for centuries. One day a vision shows them that there is another immortal in the world, so they have to look for him to find out his intentions.
“The Old Guard” tries to create deeper characters, while moving away from the clichĂ©s that dominate the most popular superhero movies.
‘Lucifer’
Originally produced by FOX Network and rescued from cancellation by Netflix in 2019. It tells the story of Lucifer Morningstar, better known as the devil, who after a long period of hellish rule, decides to go to Los Angeles to discover what mortal life can offer him.
In order not to get bored, Lucifer decides to open a nightclub called Lux, where he enjoys women, music and good drinks. His quiet life is abruptly interrupted by a horrific murder in his business.
In order to deliver justice, he decides to help the police find the culprit and after that moment the “fallen angel” becomes an ally of justice.
‘The neighbour’
A Spanish comedy aired on Netflix starring Javier, a man with a precarious job whose life changes after a dying alien transmits all his wonderful powers.
Despite his new abilities, Javier is fired from his job and his girlfriend, a journalist, divorces him. To pass the time, he decides to become a superhero named Titan and, with the help of his neighbor, trains to control his powers.
His situation is complicated when his ex-girlfriend is sent to investigate the new protector of justice, forcing him to make a plan to keep his secret identity safe.
“Brightburn”
Fans of comics are well aware of the story of the alien boy who arrives on Earth after escaping from his dying planet and who, thanks to his adoptive parents, eventually grows up to use his powers for justice.
In the case of “Brightburn”, this story takes a radical turn, when the boy who arrives from space instead of fighting evil, uses his gifts in a horrible way, worthy of the worst super-bad.
“The legacy of Zeus”
A series that combines the typical superhero story with a family drama. Its history begins in 1930, when the first super team received its forces from an unknown source.
After almost 100 years of protecting the Earth, these superheroes decide to hang up their capes and leave their responsibilities to their children, who despite having the strength can not stand up to the circumstances, so doubts arise about devotion to heroic operations. The situation is complicated when an interstellar villain appears and threatens to destroy them.
