After a year of health concerns and financial problems for the eponymous host and temporary guests occupying the acting position, the decision has finally been made to cancel. As he recounts it, his ex-wife may have wanted to be a part of the finale, saying:
I feel like it’s a joke on Debmar-Mercury’s part to have such an unceremonious departure without Wendy being involved. This is the first time in talk show history that this has been done, especially for a show that has been running for over 10 years. There is absolutely no reason why a bigger celebration involving Wendy can’t happen.
He said the production company showed a “lack of professionalism” behind the scenes towards his ex-wife and the process for her phasing out from their show. The ex went on to say that superiors were not supportive “from a health perspective” during this time. (The host reportedly struggled with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroid-related skin rashes recently.) Plus, she says, they didn’t respect the fact that their “personal relationship” had suffered for good. The Wendy Williams show. He said:
I know the blood, sweat and tears it took to make the show a success. [and] I’m not happy with the way the show is developing on a personal level and I’m really sorry that fans of the show have to see it that way.
Wendy Williams’ ex-husband filed a lawsuit against Debmar-Mercury this year for wrongful dismissal. He argued in court documents that her dismissal was illegal in New York State because it was based on marital status. And he has determined that he wants at least $ 7 million in the lawsuit, along with “punitive damages, lost wages, commissions,” as well as compensation for his attorney fees.
It is not known whether the lawsuit has already been resolved in court. However, Kevin Hunter kept his side of things in between, saying his firing was due to divorce, not his “job performance”. He also stated that the company tried to “divide and conquer” in their relationship in order to have full “access” to the fan favorite guest. Furthermore, he accuses them of “deplorable” practices over the years and said that the real reason for canceling the program “will come out very soon”.
Either way, the June 17 episode celebrated the TV personality, but not with his gift. Williams praised how “real” the former host has been over the years, adding that she “would have missed her presence.”
Wendy Williams’ replacement in her time slot, Sherri Shepherd, echoed those same sentiments. She called her the “queen of all media” and proposed that Williams would forever change the face of daytime talk shows with her “unique” approach. Shepherd has said in recent months that she was actually not friends with Williams, but, in the end, she returned to praise her for being an “icon” and went on to say that she was still “loved by many”. The show ended with the team delivering the famous “How are you?” by Williams. all stand together.
