“Wonka” hits theaters this Thursday

How did the eccentric Willy become “the” Willy Wonka? It is this question that the film “Wonka” aims to answer, which will premiere this Thursday (07) in cinemas. This time, the person who brings the strange inventor to life is Timothée Chalamet (“Dune”).

Willy Wonka is the charismatic tycoon who steals the show at every reading of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” – from Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book to the film directed by Tim Burton in 2005 (the one with Johnny Depp).

There seems to be some consensus among critics regarding the film. For the newspaper The globe, for example, “Wonka” is a fantastic cheerful factory. OR G1 described the film as “a delightfully silly and sweet surprise.” And the website Young nerd published that the film overcomes mistrust with a fantastic and delightful adventure. In short: it’s a light, delicious and fun production.

The person responsible for the project is the writer and director of the “Paddington Adventures” films, Paul King, with the production of David Heyman (“Harry Potter” and “Gravity” films), Alexandra Derbyshire (“Jurassic World: Dominion”) and Luke Kelly (“Coven of Witches”).

Timothée Chalamet will present the audience with a young Willy Wonka, full of ideas and determined to change the world with every bite, proving that the best things in life always begin with a dream.

Alongside Chalamet in “Wonka” there are: Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water”), Rowan Atkinson (films “Johnny English” and “Mr. Bean”); Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”); and Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite,” “The Lost Daughter”).

Director Paul King’s creative production team includes cinematographer Chung-Hoon Chung (“Last Night in Soho”); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk”); editor Mark Everson (film “The Paddington”); Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (film “The Paddington”); and composer Joby Talbot (“Sing” films).
