‘No, I’m 18’: The day Natalie Portman had an incredible exchange with Prince Charles about Star Wars

In 1999, when her acting career was just starting and she was only 18 years old, Natalie Portman was chosen by George Lucas to play Padme Amidala, the mother-to-be of Luke and Leia Skywalker, in the Star Wars prequel. (A fan recently imagined what Luke’s face would look like if he really was the actor’s son.)

After the release of the first episode – a colossal event in the history of cinema – Natalie Portman suddenly found herself at the rank of a global superstar. He, who had already gained some fame by playing opposite Jean Reno in Leon, Al Pacino in Heat and Jack Nicholson in Mars Attacks, was now at the forefront of the most popular saga on the big screen.

While he recently returned to the unforgettable release of The Phantom Menace, the actor, now 42, particularly remembered a rather amusing anecdote that happened at the premiere of the film in the kingdom – Uni and his meeting with the royal family.

“I remember Prince Charles – who was still Prince Charles at the time – asked me if I was original. I said: No, I’m 18 years old! But he was very friendly.”said the actor on the show Watch what’s happening live.

On the same set, Natalie Portman also said she would be open to reprising her role as Padme in Star Wars if the opportunity ever came up, but so far no one has offered it to her. His experience with Lucas’s prelogue seems to have left fond memories in any case:

“It was my first time working digitally. I don’t think anyone was shooting like that at the time. It was my first time working with green screen. It was learning a whole new skill and entering a new world. .”
