Is suddenly only a good movie? First viewers give their thoughts on this thriller starring Gilles Lelouch and Melanie Thierry.

Gilles Lelouch and Melanie Thierry are on a desert island. And winter is fast approaching. This is not the beginning of a funny story, but the starting point of Suddenly Alone, the second feature film directed by Thomas Baidegin, based on the book by Isabel Autisse.

Pure survival, in which the couple sees one stop on their solo world tour take an unexpected and dangerous turn when their boat disappears after a storm, leaving them at the mercy of the elements.

Released in our theaters on Wednesday, December 6, has the film won over the public?

With an average of 3.2 out of 5 from 138 ratings*, Unexpectedly starts alone below Cowboys, the previous feature film directed by Thomas Bydegin.

For its 2023 cast, it’s better than Asterix & Obelix – The Middle Kingdom (1.7), but less good than I Always See Your Face (4.4) for Gilles Lelouch. And lower than L’Établi (3.7) ink for Thierry.

They liked it

“The scenery is breathtaking”concludes Linda75which gives it a maximum score of 5. Like it Laurent questionedwhich is on film “In the cinema, on the big screen to see the beauty of nature.” or big pocketwho makes the same note and admits that he has lived the story to the full (almost too much): “Believe me, I was there. I felt the cold.”

The island of Iceland, which is suddenly filmed alone, therefore seems to be the star of the film. in their place, as on Mistrigri (4.5 out of 5), which leads to “Magnificent landscapes, with their desolate and disturbing sides”but tilde (4 of 5) emphasizes how much “Beautifully shot landscapes.”

“The cold, mineral beauty of this island is said to be luxurious near Antarctica, and the filmmaker’s pictures pay homage to it without blissful rapture.”– said very nicely Proud R. (3.5 out of 5).

But flesh-and-blood actors are not left out, far from it: “The actors play their roles perfectly”excited Alison L (5 out of 5) when Mistrigri conversation “Two very friendly and human actors” and Proud R. Prove that Melanie Thierry and Gilles Lelouch, who at first glance would not necessarily be together, still make a beautiful couple on screen.

Add what comes in many reviews: “And you have to admit that he takes the lead in the last part, which is very physical and intense for him.”

If the performances of the two actors are praised (even among the film’s detractors), Melanie Thierry gets the most votes. Thanks in large part to this long, almost wordless sequence that pits him against the elements:

“Special mention to Melanie Thierry, incredible”declares tildebutIslander29 (4 of 5) speaks of suddenly alone as “Probably one of Melanie Thierry’s most beautiful roles.”

finally, Thomas C. (4.5 out of 5) describes the result as “Very well written”and tilde caused by “Boring Scenario”But this aspect is more discussed.

They didn’t like it

There are those who compare the film to the book it is based on and regret the liberties taken (“Anyone who reads it like me will be very disappointed”condemns phenotype d., which still gives it 3.5 out of 5 stars). But they are few and far between, and the problem is more the narrative and rhythm.

“But what’s boring for 2 hours”calls out Edson da Silva (2 of 5) whose feelings are the same as Jfffflo (2.5 out of 5) and Herve B. (2 of 5) on this topic. or More lime (3 of 5) which welcomes some portion of bravery when empty (3 out of 5) regrets “A rhythm that is paradoxically a little soft on the knee.”

It’s a very well acted movie, but I give it an average because it’s slow and a bit long

The plot is interesting but poorly executed, the characters are unbearable and the dialogue is chaotic.critical d. (1 of 5), who still admits to appreciating the scenery.

as Love 13 (2.5 out of 5), the first words of which pretty well sum up the general thoughts: “It’s a very well acted film, but I give it an average because it’s slow and a bit long.”

in total

It is suddenly a very beautiful film. disorienting. And where the immersion map works at full speed. The cast is very good, starting with Melanie Thierry, who provides much of the grit to the story.

But the latter is clearly not very faithful to Isabel Autis’s book, which the film adapts. And the screenplay is often singled out for its somewhat slow pace, which bores some viewers.

And you ? What did you think suddenly alone?
