Security is strengthened for institutional rites in Buenos Aires
The president-elect of Argentina, Javier Milei, will take office this Sunday (10).
At least 7,000 men, including presidential guards, agents and members of the special forces, will be deployed to ensure the safety of Argentina’s president-elect, Javier Milei, and the international delegations arriving in Buenos Aires.
The measures were strengthened to allow the presence of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, who confirmed his presence this Saturday (9) at the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of Argentina, Javier Milei.
The head of state’s plane stopped to refuel at the Brazilian Air Force base (FAB) in Brasilia on Saturday night, after leaving Cape Verde, where Zelensky met Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva.
To facilitate the presence of the commander of Kiev, who will return to his country this Sunday, security was strengthened throughout the inauguration ceremony.
The Avenida de Mayo, a road of about 1.5 kilometers that connects the Palace of Congresses, where Milei will take the oath, and the Casa Rosada, where he will greet foreign delegations, has been completely isolated and closed to traffic.
Agents will be positioned along the route, including snipers, drones and helicopters under constant surveillance.
Across Europe, the only heads of state and government present, besides Zelenskyj, will be King Philip VI of Spain and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Italy will be represented by the Minister for University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, while France has sent the Minister for Transformation, Stanislas Guerini, and the United Kingdom, the Minister for the Americas and Overseas Territories, David Ruthley.
The Brazilian government will send Chancellor Mauro Vieira as a representative.
In Latin America, leaders such as Gabriel Boric, from Chile, and Luis Lacalle Pou, from Uruguay will also be present.
The ultraliberal Javier Milei, 53, will be Argentina’s tenth president since democracy returned in 1983.
